How do I move my child's school records to a new school?
Enroll at the new school and tell it which school your child went to before. The old school can send the records straight to the new one without your written permission.
You can ask for a copy of what was sent. If something in it is wrong, you can ask for a hearing to correct it.
Keep your own copies of the last report card, any IEP, and shot records, so enrollment doesn't wait on paperwork.
If your child has an IEP and moves during the school year, the new public school must give services like the ones in it until it adopts that IEP or writes a new one. After a move from another state, it may do its own evaluation first.
