Do I need to tell my mover about jewelry or other expensive things?

Yes, in writing, for anything worth more than $100 a pound. Think jewelry, silver, china, furs, antiques and rugs.

On a move between states, if you don't list them on the shipping papers, the mover can limit what it pays, even with full value protection.

Ask the mover to explain its limits in writing before the move. Keep photos and receipts for anything valuable.
